Adventures Road Tripping Through Iceland

by Candice

Last week I road tripped through Iceland with my friend, just the two of us in a rental car driving down the rural roads of (very) cold Iceland. Iceland is one country I’ve always wanted to visit to especially because of the many hot springs and lagoons, but I truly did not realize how rural the rest of Iceland is apart of Reykjavik.

For the first five days of the trip we drove to different towns in Iceland and stayed at a different airbnb each night. Since we were in very rural areas, we got groceries from a local grocery store and cooked our dinner at the airbnb each night.

Each day we went to see a few waterfalls and we even got to see Geysir which is a rare kind of hot spring that is under pressure and erupts water and steam into the air.

If you are someone who enjoys rural life, then road tripping is the best way to see this country. If you are someone that prefers to be around a city like environment, I recommend Reykjavik – we stayed there for the last two days of the trip and there were a lot more things to do there. There’s tons of shops, restaurants, cafes and museums and there are tons of food options for vegans and vegetarians! I’m glad that I visited during October as some of the shops even had Halloween decorations up!

The last night we ate dinner at Sumac and the food was incredible! I highly recommend their grilled oyster mushrooms, za’atar flatbread and the potatoes!

Iceland Puffins, Northern Lights & Lagoons

We went to Dyrholaey to see the puffins, but unfortunately they weren’t there and with the sky being cloudy each day we didn’t get to see the northern lights either.

We decided not to go to Blue Lagoon and instead we went to Secret Lagoon and Sky Lagoon. I highly recommend Sky Lagoon as you get more bang for your buck with the Sky package, you get a seven step ritual with private changing facilities.
