One of my favorite things about interior design and home decor is the ability to play with color. Color expression is something I have been heavily leaning on since I bought this condo back in August 2022.
I have white walls in my living room and was looking for a way to add some pops of color but didn’t really know where to start. About a month ago, I was scrolling through pinterest for some home decor inspo and came across this blogger, Tasha who had DIYed a gallery wall in her home. I immediately knew this is what I wanted to add to my living room and got to work in putting this gallery wall together.
Materials Needed
- Ikea 19 inch photo frames
- 12″ x 12″ photo enlargements (I ordered photos from Shutterfly online.)
- Paint Samples (I went to Home Depot and ordered 6 paint samples of Behr paint, the colors I used are Watermelon Punch, Noble Blush, Reserve, Spring Stream, English Daisy and Lite Lavender by Sherwin Williams.
- Paint brush
- Drop cloth
Gallery Wall Step 1
Remove the wooden board behind the frame and remove the white mat from the frame and set aside.
Gallery Wall Step 2
Place the mat over a dropcloth and using a regular paint brush paint the mat. For this step, it’s best to use long even strokes to ensure the paint evenly coats the mat and each mat will require two coats of paint.
Gallery Wall Step 3
Firstly, insert your photos into the frame and decide how you want to lay out your gallery wall. I purposely selected black and white photos because it adds a nice contrast to the colorful mats.
Secondly, since I have three columns with wainscotting I chose to add two frames to each column one on top of the other.
Gallery Wall Step 4
You can use command picture hanging strips to hang up the frames. I followed Tasha’s instructions and applied one in each corner of the frame. I also used a level to ensure the frames are perfectly even.
