My Morning Routine

by Candice

Welcome to my morning routine. Optimizing mornings helps set the tone for a productive and fulfilling day ahead. The way we start our mornings can significantly impact our energy levels, mindset, and overall well-being. Crafting an effective morning routine for me helps nourishes both body and mind. From mindfulness practices and exercise routines to nourishing breakfasts and strategic planning, each element plays a vital role in enhancing our daily rituals.

Waking Up and Mindfulness Practice

Setting the Right Tone for the Day

Ah, the dreaded sound of the alarm clock. I am guilty of hitting snooze multiple times and still find it a struggle to wake up on time. Gradually, I was able to select a time in the morning that works for me and gives me enough time to get my started before I start my 9-5.

Take a moment to set your intentions for the day ahead, whether it’s conquering a work project or simply surviving a morning meeting with your sanity intact.

Morning Meditation or Breathing Exercises

In the past, my morning routine wasn’t really anything special. I would wake up, roll out of bed about thirty minutes before 9, brush my teeth, feed Nala, eat a light breakfast and start working. While that did work for me in the past, I’ve incorporated mindful meditation in the morning to help reduce stress and set a peaceful tone for the day. Plus, it’s a great way to sneak in a mini mental reset before the chaos of the day kicks in.

Exercise and Movement

Morning Workout Routine

I am NOT a morning person when it comes to exercise. You will not find me at the gym at 5 am working out. I commend people who can get a workout in early in the morning before work, I wish I could do that, but my energy levels are so low in the morning.

I prefer to go out for a walk before work to get fresh air and feel the sun on my skin. This morning walk really helps energize my body and mind.

Stretching and Mobility Exercises

After my morning walk, I like to stretch to help loosen up my joints and muscles. So, dust off that yoga mat or simply reach for the sky and touch your toes – your body will thank you for it.

Healthy Breakfast and Hydration

Preparation of Nutritious Breakfast

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and for good reason. Fueling your body with a nutritious breakfast can kickstart your metabolism, improve your focus, and prevent you from devouring a whole cake by noon.

I like to switch up my breakfast, I usually will make either protein pancakes, a protein smoothie or have fruit and cereal and always cold brew!

Whether you’re a smoothie connoisseur or a proud oatmeal enthusiast, make sure to fuel up with something that nourishes both your body and soul.

Importance of Hydration in the Morning

I always need water in the morning. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning helps kick start my metabolism and keeps my skin glowing like a freshly glazed donut. Raise that glass (or mug, no judgment here) and toast to a hydrated and healthy start to the day.

Personal Care

Skin Care and Hygiene Routine

I take a quick shower in the morning after my morning walk. When it comes to my skin care, I keep it very simple. I use ambi soap on my face and then moisturize with my favorite lotion, Aveeno which I’ve been using since I was a kid. I always shower in the morning to wash away the remnants of sleep and welcome the day with open arms.

Dressing for Success

Choosing the right outfit is as crucial as picking the perfect emoji to convey your mood. I like to dress in a way that makes me feel confident and ready to conquer the world. Whether it’s dresses, skirts or cozy sweats (let’s be real, most days it’s the latter), it sets the tone for the day.

Since I work from home, I’ve been making an extra effort to get dressed for the day rather than always wearing sweats. Wearing a nice outfit can help lift your mood and make you feel more productive throughout the day.

Planning and Prioritizing Tasks

Creating a To-Do List

Ah, the joy of listing down tasks and crossing them off as they get completed. I use a planner to write down all the tasks I need to get done for the day. There is truly nothing more satisfying than checking off a task.

Setting Daily Goals and Intentions

I aim to start each day with a clear vision of what I want to achieve. Sometimes it’s as grand as world domination (in a metaphorical sense, of course), and other times it’s just making it through the day without spilling coffee on myself. Setting intentions keeps me focused and gives me a sense of purpose.

Commuting or Remote Work Setup

Preparing for the Commute

Whether I’m braving the wild outdoors for a commute or shuffling from the bedroom to the living room for remote work, preparation is key. Grabbing essentials like keys, wallet, and coffee (the holy trinity) sets the stage for a successful day ahead.

Optimizing Your Home Workspace

Working from home is a blend of comfort and chaos, with a side of unexpected interruptions (looking at you, Nala). I strive to create a workspace that fosters productivity, minimal distractions, and maximum coziness. It’s a delicate balance, like a Jenga tower of productivity.

As the morning hustle comes to a close, I take a moment to reflect on the chaos and beauty of it all. From skincare routines to to-do lists, each step shapes the day ahead. Life may throw curveballs, but with a solid morning routine, I’m armed and ready to face whatever comes my way. Onward, morning warriors!
