Plant Based Proteins

by Candice

To my vegetarian friends, how many times are you asked “How do you get protein?”

I’ll go first, I’ve lost count.

Luckily, protein comes in many forms and is easy to find at your local grocery store or you might even have some on hand and don’t even know it.

For anyone out there that is looking to add more plant based protein into their system, I have got you covered with a list of plant based protein sources.

Plant Based Protein Sources

My favorite way to get protein in, is by using whey chocolate protein powder in my morning shake. I add in a banana, with a little bit of peanut butter for extra protein, whey, water and some spinach (I swear you don’t taste it.) It tastes like a Reese’s peanut butter cup milkshake!

One of my favorite recipes to make is my Apple Nachos! It contains a drizzle of peanut butter which makes for a light but filling afternoon snack. Plant based proteins can be used in both savory and sweet dishes.

While I was in college, I made a chocolate chip cookie dip using chickpeas. Shortly after incorporating chickpeas into this dip I experimented with other vegetables that I could incorporate into a baked good and created a soft but moist brownie using black beans and sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are very versatile in cooking and baking.

With that being said, below is a list of plant based protein sources and some recipe ideas you can make using these proteins.
