Things I No Longer Buy
In a world that constantly tells us to buy more, choosing to buy less can feel revolutionary. Over the past few years, I’ve become more intentional with my purchases — focusing on what truly adds value to my life. The result? Less clutter, more savings, and a whole lot more peace of mind.
I’m sharing the things I no longer buy — and how cutting these out has helped me live more simply and sustainably.
1. Trendy Fast Fashion
I used to love the thrill of grabbing cheap, trendy clothes. But fast fashion not only drains your wallet — it’s terrible for the environment and often poor quality. Now, I invest in timeless, high-quality pieces that last for years instead of weeks. My wardrobe is smaller, but it’s filled with things I actually love to wear.
2. Single-Use Products
From paper towels to disposable coffee cups, I used to throw away a small fortune every month. Switching to reusable alternatives — like cloth towels, a stainless-steel water bottle, and a travel mug — has saved me money and reduced my household waste dramatically.
Quick swap: Paper towels → washable microfiber cloths.
3. Cheap Home Décor
Impulse décor purchases were my weakness. I’d buy cute things that looked great for a few weeks, then cluttered up my space.
Now, I take a minimalist approach to home décor — investing only in meaningful, long-lasting pieces that make my home feel calm and cohesive.
4. Cable TV & Streaming Services
I watch mostly Netflix and it is my main source of television. I haven’t used or watched cable tv in years and nowadays you need a subscription to watch tv on various platforms.
5. Beauty Products
I stick to a simple, effective skincare routine with products I trust. Fewer products = less waste, less decision fatigue, and more consistent results.
6. Cheap Tech Accessories
Low-quality chargers, headphones, and gadgets always seemed like a bargain — until they broke two weeks later.
These days, I buy once, buy well. Investing in durable tech accessories saves me frustration and money in the long run.
7. Holiday or Seasonal Décor (in excess)
I used to feel pressured to go all-out for every holiday. But most of it ended up in storage bins, rarely reused.
Now I focus on simple, reusable decorations that bring joy without the clutter or waste.
8. Bottled Water and Sugary Drinks
This one’s a big money (and health) saver. I switched to filtered tap water and reusable bottles. My wallet and body both thank me.
Buy Less, Live More
Learning to say “no” to unnecessary purchases has been one of the most freeing things I’ve ever done.
I’ve gained more than I’ve lost — more time, space, clarity, and financial freedom.
If you’re thinking about simplifying your life, start with just one category on this list. You’ll be amazed at how quickly those small changes add up.
